Chiamato anche Ramses il Grande, è stato il terzo sovrano della XIX dinastia e regnò dal 1279 al 1212 a.C. Grazie alla durata eccezionale del suo regno, oggi gli egittologi usano chiamare col suo nome l’intero periodo della sua dinastia (Epoca Ramesside).
